Since multisport was released in Today’s Plan in April 2018, rowing has been a sport type that users have been able to upload and track. Recent updates allow rowing activities not only to be tracked but also analysed in depth. This is particularly useful to rowers (both indoor and outdoor) who are training with power.
To upload your rowing activities you have a few options depending on how the activity was recorded. If you recorded the activity on a rowing specific device or app (such as ErgData, SmartRow, SpeedCoach, etc) you will need to export the activities in TCX or .fit file format. For instructions on how to do that please look up the instructions from your device manufacturer. Those files can then be uploaded directly by logging into your account on your desktop and clicking the upload icon in the top right of the screen
Alternatively, you may wish to record the activity on another sport specific device such as a Garmin or Wahoo computer. If you upload the file from those devices they are likely to be uploaded as rides, so to change the sport type simply open the file on your calendar, click the name in the top > Reprocess > Sport – “Rowing” > Reprocess 1 activity.
The analysis of an activity starts in the activity summary. This allows you to see the average pace for the activity in /500m units, as well as the average and max stroke rate, power and heart rate among other metrics depending on what you recorded.
Clicking to the intervals tab also allows you to see a more detailed breakdown of each interval or lap in the activity. You can use the Choose Fields cog icon in the top right to select the fields you wish to see such as avg pace for each interval. The other standard Activity Summary tabs such as Peaks, Time in Zone, Load, etc are also there for viewing. For more information on the activity summary please watch our masterclass video.
Clicking through to the analysis tab allows you to see more detailed information about the row and use the activity graph to do a detailed analysis or create new intervals. The “Row default profile” will appear under the activity graph with default panels we have chosen. As always that data is completely customisable and you can see the selection of Panels available by clicking the + icon in the top right hand corner.
As with all other sport types, all your rowing data and metrics can be visualised on the Dashboard. Use the sport picker in the top of the Dashboard to select Rowing, then add in and customise the Dashboard panels to show the relevant metrics for Rowing.
