The Curve+ feature

The Curve+ feature is a powerful tool which increases the speed of racing and training analysis and makes it easier to see detailed insights in the data. The Curve+ feature is enabled for running and cycling activities that have power data recorded with them. This feature has the potential to be utilised with other sports such as rowing and cross-country skiing as they begin to incorporate power recording devices in their activity analysis.

General Peaks Analysis

The Curve+ feature is a combination of a standard activity graph, a peak power curve and a peak power table. As you scroll your mouse along the power curve, you will see a line appear above the activity graph which highlights where in the activity you hit that peak power. For example, if an athlete completed a bike race, they can quickly see at which point in the race they hit each duration of peak power.

Multiple File Analysis

Users can overlay multiple files to compare them at the same time. This is particularly useful if an athlete has completed the same race multiple times, and wants to compare how their power output varied race to race. For coaches, this means you can overlay different athletes files from the same race to compare how they distributed their power throughout the race.

Creating Peak Power Curves for different sections

Another useful tool for race analysis is the ability to create a power curve for any section of a race. You can do this by holding down the alt key (“option” key for Mac users) and selecting a section of the activity graph. In the example below, the race is defined by a 40 minute long hill climb. By creating a new power curve just for this climb, users can easily see the power outputs required to get up this climb each time they completed the race. This has powerful implications for prescription of training in the future.

Detailed Training Analysis

The ability to create new peak power curves for different sections of an activity also make it simple to analyse repeated efforts done in training. In the example below, the athlete completed a set 6 max effort sprints, and using the Curve+ feature the peak power curve for each sprint can be analysed. In addition, this data can be exported from the peak power table to save and keep track of, or send directly to the athlete.

The raw data can be exported in a spreadsheet friendly .csv file. This allows coaches to send the data directly to their athletes, or for users to save the data from a session for later use.
